The Tahlequah
Public Works compost operation is located at
the Tahlequah Wastewater Facility. It
is designed and operated to manage 100% of
the daily generation of bio-solids. Solids
are separated, aerobically digested, and
belt pressed with solids concentration of 15
to 18%. This process enables TPWA to provide
an organic product that can be used to amend
our local soils.
Compost is being
used by the TPWA for repairing areas where
lines break and new line installations are
being done. Much of the compost is
being used internally for projects of TPWA.
Some compost is being sold to local
landscapers and farmers. The finished
compost is compliant with all federal, state
and local regulations. It has tested
positively for agriculture use, and
nutrients are satisfactory and slowly
released into the soil.
This project has
received recognition from the local Garden
Club, Northeast Oklahoma Solid Waste
Institute and the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers
Commission. The sale of our compost
product is in the early stages, but is
expected to grow to be a valued asset to our
community and our business. |
